Q. What does this have to do with the next Provincial Election, to be held on June 2nd 2020?
A. Everything!
This election is a necessary annoyance in our lives. Many people are apathetic others are resigned to the re-election of the Conservatives and many will just not vote because they are convinced that the opposition isn't worth their votes.
At the BurdReport we believe in most of the cynicism around the choices - The Cons should be never voted for because of their record of the past four years, the Liberals have failed to make a case and led by the photogenetically challenged DelDuca and have wasted the past two years of campaigning. Or in their case non-campaigning. The NDP have blown everything they thought they had by leaving the hapless, ineffective and bland Andrea Horvath. Andrea may be a very nice person but her 'best-by' date is long gone. She should have never been allowed to remain as leader after the last election. She should have resigned on a high note, but didn't.
The choices in Northumberland Peterborough South (NPS) are stark. We have as an incumbent a person who never passes a camera without having his picture captured. His constituency work is non-apparent and complaints abound about his being unreachable. "Hey David the voters want to talk to the organ grinder, not the monkeys in the office!"
The Liberals have had a nominated candidate for over a year and yet he is still unknown, despite him being a retired person with all kinds of time on his hands. The NDP didn't even have a candidate until the second week after the dropping of the writ.
As we at the BurdReport know through actual experience the local candidate in today's elections don't mean much. The election is Leader focused. And that there is the problem.
Faced with a liar with a smily face and dubious record, come on down Doug Ford, and an unknown Liberal Leader and an ineffective NDper. Who is uppermost in the minds of the electorate, who is the only person with a record and a name? Hate to say it DoFo is that person.
So with that in mind who will Joe and Jane Frontporch be voting for this time; if they decide to get off the couch and vote? Has the record of four years of incompetence, corruption and general disdain to the voters affected Joe and Jane? Probably not!
Faced with a record of total mismanagement of the Covid19 epidemic/fiasco and the sad record of having over 4000 people die on their watch, in Long Term Care (LTC) alone, never mind the others who contracted the disease and died in hospital, we now know that in addition to handing over bagful's of money to his buddies who run the LTC industry we now discover that he is on the cusp of privatising the HealthCare system in cahoots with Galen Weston (probably one of the richest men in Ontario) who stands to make more money by being handed the lucrative clinic side of the HealthCare system.
So is this election an "nothingburger" election?
Hell No! So get off your arses and vote on Thursday, but vote for anybody other than the Conservatives!
